THE INTERNATIONAL MONETARY Fund (IMF) predicts APAC will recover better than other parts of the world with growth in the regional GDP of around 6.9 per cent.
The 2021 APAC Construction Forecast from Procure attributed this growth to government in- tervention which has included increased spending on infrastructure.
Government spending in the region has focused on shovel-ready projects to support the construc- tion industry. Overall, the construction industry is expected to turn over $240 billion worth of pro- jects in 2021.
That is a big spend which translates into plen- ty of contracting work for the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. But are we ready? An excellent report compiled by the Expert Group and released last month identifies some of the
construction processes, such as commissioning, which impact RAC outcomes.
There is currently no Australian Standard for commissioning although CCN understands it is in development, a move which is long overdue.
It is clear ad-hoc commissioning does not work and it is made worse because it takes place at the end of the construction process, just before handover, when time is tight. Turn to page 28 for the full story.
Another issued raised in the report is penny pinching throughout the procurement process which has a negative impact on the quality of these projects.
Also in this month’s issue of the magazine CCN profiles the innovators using technology to create virtual exhibitions to showcase their products (see story on page 26). Instead of waiting around for the return of trade exhibitions, they are blazing a trail of their own.
