Vale Anthony Bourdain 1956-2018
The international, culinary community has been in mourning following the suicide of celebrated chef and ‘Parts Unknown’ presenter, Anthony Bourdain, in France at age 61.
CNN released the statement: “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
New campaign ‘Inspired by Australian Pork’ launches
Australian Pork has launched its newest initiative dedicated to Australian chefs, Inspired by Australian Pork.
A celebration of the volume market, Inspired by Australian Pork complements the company’s long-running and successful PorkStar campaign.
Australian Pork’s Venessa Barnes says, “Inspired by Australian Pork is really fitting for the work I’m doing, which is about inspiring people, through masterclasses, symposiums, market trials and recipe inspiration. Inspired by Australian Pork is basically anything that builds familiarity with pork to ultimately increase pork sales in these outlets.”
Fair Work Ombudsman brings action against Foodora
The Fair Work Ombudsman has commenced legal proceedings against food delivery company, Foodora Australia Pty Ltd for alleged sham contracting and the underpayment of bicycle delivery riders.
Fair Work Ombudsman Natalie James said, “Relevant to the decision to litigate in this case is the extent to which contracting arrangements are utilised by this significant business ... The only way to answer the question of whether the workers delivering the meals are employees or ‘independent contractors’ is for someone to ask a court to consider the specific ‘relationships’ between a company and its workers.”
Ovolo Hotels announces partnership with chef Justin North
Sydney-based chef, Justin North, is working closely with boutique hotel, Ovolo 1888 Darling Harbour, and head chef Luca Guiotto (ex-A Tavola, Catalina) to help create the menu for its new Mediterranean-style wine bar and kitchen, Mister Percy.
With a focus on Australian produce North says, “We’re taking our guests on a journey with beautiful wine matched with Mediterranean-style pinchos showcasing the best local ingredients. We’ve drawn on flavours from around the European coastline and it’s not surprising that it’s exactly what we like to eat and drink here.”
