Heat Exchanger
Split system dehumidifier with counter flow exchanger
RH-CUBE 18 IS the HVAC industry’s first split- system dehumidifier to use a counter- flow heat exchanger for moisture removal and heat recov- ery within a small footprint.
DewAir Corporation, an Ottawa-based manu- facturer of HVAC and IAQ products, has intro- duced the RH-Cube 18, the HVAC industry’s first split-system mechanical dehumidifier using a compact, energy-efficient counter-flow heat ex- changer for dedicated humidity control.
The RH-Cube 18 reduces air conditioning en- ergy costs up to 55-percent and increases indoor air quality (IAQ) for restaurants, hotels, schools, healthcare clinics, athletic facilities, offices, grow-ops, factories, museums, warehouses, resi- dences and many other applications with small to medium spaces requiring humidity control.
The 18,000-BTU/hr, 600-CFM unit indepen- dently supplements any air conditioning system by removing up to 206-lbs and 273-lbs (93 or 123- kg) of moisture/day at 45-per cent and 60-per cent relative humidity (RH), respectively. The RH-Cube 18 uses an R-410A refrigeration circuit/
cooling coil to con- dense airborne mois- ture. However, unlike conventional air condi- tioning that often over- cools a space while maintaining RH, the RH-Cube 18’s counter- flow heat exchanger en- ergy-efficiently recovers return air heat to warm the cooled discharge air slightly below the room’s comfort zone temperature.
The patented, air-to-air
counter-f low heat exchanger’s
compact size outperforms other dehumidifica- tion methodologies many times larger than the RH-Cube 18 indoor evaporator/air handler’s small 38.2 (h) x 44 (w) x 28.4 (d)-inch (97 x 112 x 72-cm) footprint.
The compact size and capacity make it ideal for spaces under 12,000 square feet such as food

processing areas during wash downs, sports lock- er rooms, hotel hallways,
grow-ops and other areas where excessive moisture can generate mold, mildew
and other IAQ health issues. The 1-1/2-ton condenser is 220-V sin- gle-phase and the 120-V indoor air handler in- cludes a grounded plug for connecting to any nearby electrical outlet. The condenser can be installed up to 82 feet away and 50 feet high from the indoor air handler. The unit’s condensate pan is gravity drained, however secondary pans, P-traps and condensate pumps can easily be
added to comply with local codes.
Transforming waste heat into energy
KELVION HAS RELEASED solutions to recov- er waste heat adding two new additions to its product portfolio – the Exhaust Gas Heat Ex- changer and the EcoMi modular economizer.
The Exhaust Gas Heat Exchanger transfers heat produced by exhaust gases from combus- tion engines to a liquid. When heated up, this liq- uid can be used in cogeneration plants, com- bined heat and power plants, district heating systems, on board ships, biogas plants and fur- naces. The Exhaust Gas Heat Exchanger was put on the market earlier this year.
Made from high-alloyed stainless steel, the
Exhaust Gas Heat Exchanger can handle tem- peratures up to 5500C. The Exhaust Gas Heat Exchanger is equipped with a compact finned heat exchanger module, which is easily replace- able and therefore service-friendly. Compact fin tube bundles completely made out of stainless steel, are insensitive to soiling and easy to clean with high pressure as well as cleaning agents.
The EcoMi takes economizer solutions to the next level. An economizer is a type of heat ex- changer that recovers residual heat from oil, gas or wood-fired boilers for reuse in other thermal operations. This new model combines the econo-
mizer’s proven economic advantages with a mod- ular design, leading to even more savings and ver- satility. It can be used in the paper, food, textiles, power and HVAC industries. Multi-stage dry/wet systems using both carbon steel and stainless steel components are available to provide an op- timal solution with lowest possible price.
With its vertical, horizontal or horizontal to vertical installation it can be easily integrated into existing plants. The EcoMi can handle a wide range of gas flow volumes and be fitted with different tube variants or sheet types to suit operating conditions.
