APCO Awards in the offing
The APCO Awards are almost here again – this year returning in a virtual format on 18 November. The annual celebration recognises Australian organisations that are leading the way in sustainable packaging.
APCO CEO Brooke Donnelly
THIS year, the awards will feature 18 catego- ries, including accolades for the highest-per- forming organisation from a range of major industry sectors including retail; manufac- turing; electronics; food and beverage; and telecommunications.
The 2020 ceremony will also feature five Outstanding Achievement Awards that rec- ognise the highest performing APCO mem- bers in range of critical delivery areas of Industry Leadership, Packaging Design for Recoverability, and Sustainable Packaging Operations. The Outstanding Achievement Awards also include the Highest Performing New Member Award and the APCO Sustain- ability Champion Award, which recognises people who are making a tangible difference in sustainable packaging. In 2019 Diarmaid O’Mordha, quality and sustainability man- ager for Endeavour Drinks, was awarded this prize in recognition of his sustainability lead- ership in the wine industry supply chain.
APCO CEO Brooke Donnelly said the eve- ning’s most prestigious award – the Outstanding Achievement in Industry Leadership category – will recognise an APCO member that is inte- grating sustainable packaging as a core consid- eration for their organisation.
“In 2019 the accolade went to supply-chain specialists CHEP in recognition of their highly collaborative and innovative global reusable packaging model,” Donnelly said.
This year APCO will also unveil three new categories for projects designed to help Australia reach the 2025 National Packaging Targets. The Our Packaging Future Awards will highlight innovation and leadership in sustainable packaging education; improved collection and recycling systems; and end- market development. These awards are open to all APCO members and are self-nomina- tion format. Entries close in early October. More information is available on the APCO website www.packagingcovenant.org.au. ■
