RUNNER-UP BRENNAN FINIGHAN
Brisbane-based Brennan Finighan has been taking pictures for most of his life, but more consistently for the last 20 years. He says he started off photographing ‘everything’, but over time was drawn more towards photographing women and creating photographic art.
Today, he specialises in a range of genres including conceptual, fine art, portrait, fashion, and underwa- ter photography. He has won numerous gold medals and other awards for work entered into international photography competitions.
In addition to studio work, he also does photography and videography for events, including burlesque shows, aerial circus performances, fashion shows, and music events.

PRECISION. This image was created in my studio with the assistance of two amazing models, one of whom is a circus performer and the other an athlete. They posed on a mirror to capture the reflection in order to add an extra dimension to the geometric style. The most difficult part of creating this image was achieving sym- metry in order for it to be aesthetically pleasing.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID
I was instantly drawn to this stunning photo and appreciated
the delicate handling of the image. Gentle tones as well as strong blacks and whites, with superb symmetry and a creative reflection. This image is what makes you appreciate all that as well as the human body, skin, and muscle tone without the distraction of colour. Also, the connection between the two people and the fact that the symmetry is so perfect in almost every aspect also keeps it real as a photo, rather than a graphic. The minor sections that are slightly off-centre really complete this as an outstanding image, and deserving of recognition. Jayne Mclean
