 JUDGE POWELL
This is a new concept in driveable repairs
covering all those otherwise sublet repairs such as wheels, PDR, headlamps and lease
return refurbishment. These can all be performed in house or by their mobile teams.
                    U
can do a diamond-cut on the wheels in about three hours, and because we do the paint and dent, this is where the cus- tomer can wait.”
The customer waiting area is quite simply stunning – beautifully designed by Sandra herself with exposed brick walls and a plant wall. As well as work- stations with charge points and NBN ac- cess, there’s an area for kids to play that includes a little kitchen, custom-painted to IQ’s own design.
But no amount of customer service matters if you don’t deliver on the vehi- cle. Jason and Sandra have left little to chance. They’ve installed the best in equipment and taken care with the lay- out of the renovated space: “This has been a panel shop for the last 45 years, as far as we can tell,” he says. “It was in severe disrepair. So we wanted that gal- ley-style so everyone can see out. Most shops have the technicians with their backs to everyone. It’s good for a bit of vibrancy, it makes it much less claustro- phobic - and you have to keep it clean at all times,” says Coombes.
The customer drives into a bright, well lit workshop where the car is as- sessed. There’s a separate panel area which isn’t overlooked by the customer area but does house an awesome staff lunch room and the production manag- er’s office. The workshop walls are all painted white and the floor is beautiful- ly painted in corporate colours. Behind the panel shop wall is a void to store panel stands out of the way to ensure the workshop stays tidy.
It’s a similar cohesion of the old and new that has allowed IQ to not only weather stormy 2020, but to contin-
ue growing within it. “If we had
the mobile technicians without
the shops, it wouldn’t work so
well. Coming from a shop back- ground its allowed us to put out a higher standard of work in a mobile centre than people are used to,” says Coombes. “Most of our clients are in Mer- cedes or BMWs, so they need a good job. All the same, we treat all
cars equally, regardless of wha make and model they are.”
CLOCKWISE FROM OPPOSITE PAGE: Modern livery lifts old building; love the exposed brick wall in reception; excellent customer amenities; tired workshop renewed and is clean and modern.
