LIVE 2018
New frontiers in packaging print
A stellar line-up of industry experts is set to cover the key trends and new technology driving growth in FMCG packaging print at the PRINT21+PKN LIVE forum in Sydney on 3 August.
SETTING the scene for the day with an exploration of how digital disruption has impact- ed the world of printed media, opening keynote presenter Laura Demasi, director of so- cial and consumer trends at Roy Morgan Research, will
address The Rise of the Real: The role of the ‘new’ and the ‘old’ in the new media and consumer landscape.
“In the race towards digital it’s tempting to lose sight of the whole picture when it comes to the media and consumer landscape. But it hasn’t completely eclipsed all traditional media channels,” Demasi says. “While time spent online now sur- passes other media channels, people still engage with traditional media; the majority of consumers still watch commercial TV and significant pro- portions read magazines and cata- logues – and shop from them.
And despite spending so much time online, she says, people still
like to walk away from their screens to engage with the ‘real’ – Austra- lians’ spend on leisure and enter- tainment (going out) is increasing at a faster rate than (non-grocery) dis- cretionary commodities, while retail visitation has also seen an uptick.
“So, while it’s tempting to see the world and the future as completely ‘digital’, consumers continue to move between the traditional and the digi- tal. That goes for all media, depend-

ing on what kind of experience they are seeking, as well as how they like to spend their time.”
The day’s agenda comprises four main sessions, with experts in their fields delivering the goods on grow- ing opportunities for printers in pack- aging in the digital age, major trends influencing FMCG packaging design, and the technology driving this change.
