BEST NEW SHOP FINALISTS
THERE WASN’T A GLUT OF NEW SHOPS THIS YEAR WHICH IS NOT REALLY SURPRISING GIVEN LABOUR AND MATERIAL SHORTAGES AND, ER WELL, COVID. THE NEW SHOP CATEGORY IS ALWAYS A DIFFICULT ONE TO PICK. WHILE COLLISION 1 PIPPED THESE TO THE POST IT WAS A CLOSE CALL.
GEMINI ROCKHAMPTON, QLD
Gemini’s new facility in Rockhampton opened for business in March 2022 and it really is very impressive in terms of presentation and workflow. It provides a wide range of repair services under one roof, including a mechanical section. The team love their new facility as do the customers said manager Jes Madsen. The new, expanded site has increased productivity by 50%.
The parts area is especially well or- ganised, the shop is clean, very tidy and brilliantly laid out and the crew we saw via Zoom chowing down in the smoko room looked happy in their new envi- ronment.
MSR CRESTMEAD, QLD
Part of the Fortress group this massive facility has a young, enthusiastic crew backed up by a wealth of top manage- ment experience. Despite the enormous workshop space and vast carpark, the facility was full to the gunnells when we visited. It specialises in ’complex re- pairs’. The tow-ins are assessed on site and either written off or sent into the re- pair stream.
However complex the repairs, the pro- cess and workflow is logical and easy to follow. A highly productive site which also manages to bring on young talent. Customer facilities are well presented but real magic goes on in the workshop.
