LG stands tall with Multi design options
LG AUSTRALIA HAS been selected to provide air conditioning for the 88-storey Aurora build- ing opposite Melbourne's Central Station.
The $770 million skyscraper has overtaken The Rialto as the highest residential tower in Melbourne's CBD standing at 289 metres tall.
LG worked with the developer UEM Sunrise (Malaysia), the consulting engineer, Murchie Consultants, mechanical contractor D&E Air Conditioning, and the builder, Probuild, to win the prestigious project.
The 120,000 square metre development which features a total of 1,190 apartments will be com- pleted in August.
LG's marketing manager, air conditioning, Bruce Leigh, said the project had a very com- plex set of challenges.
“Obviously the air conditioning solution need- ed to be energy efficient and to have strong con- nectivity, but we also needed to maximise limit- ed installation space,” he said.
'This is why the Multi V Water solution has proven to be such a good fit.”
Leigh said LG proposed several design options and selections.
“We were able to provide a reduction in con- denser water reticulation from the original de- sign of 4, down to 2 modules per floor in the building,” he said.
Leigh said the lightweight outdoor unit ena- bles double stacking, which resulted in substan- tial savings in installation space.
It is also easier to transport and install thanks to a 13% reduction in unit size and 15% reduction in overall weight.
“It's hard to match this solution for flexibility it has up to 300m of piping length and because wa- ter pipes are not connected to indoor units, users are free from water leak problems," he said.
Leigh said individual controls were also re- quired to service different areas ranging from mixed service apartments to large common areas.
