MANN+HUMMEL has also launched a new range of energy saving pocket filters in accord- ance with the new Eurovent energy rating.
The A+ rated Airpocket Eco ePM10 70 % is ac- companied by the three A rated products Air- pocket Pro ePM1 60 %, Airpocket Eco ePM10 50 % and Airpocket Eco ePM1 85 %.
The Airpocket Eco filters are certified ac- cording to the Swedish P-marking system, which provides assurance of long-term perfor- mance with regard to the degree of separation. The new filters complement MANN+HUMMEL's range of air filters for air conditioning and ven- tilation systems for different filter classes and energy efficiency requirements.
Since the beginning of 2019, the new Eurovent energy efficiency rating applies to air filters in air conditioning and ventilation systems that meas- ure 592 x 592 mm.
The definition is based on the ISO filter class- es, such as ePM1 50 % and an annual energy con- sumption in kWh/y. There are 6 energy classes from A+ to E, where A+ stands for the lowest and E stands for the highest energy consumption.
The definition is more precise than the old system according to EN779 which indicated only one energy consumption value per class. The new rating system offers 5 values for annu- al energy consumption specific to each ISO ef- ficiency rating.
laws in the building and construction industry. It found laws are different in each state across Australia which has a significant im- pact on the level of protection afforded to sub-
contractors.
In its submission the Air Conditioning and
Mechanical Contractors Association (AMCA) called for the introduction of nationally consist- ent legislation across Australia to ensure prompt
MANN+HUMMEL HAS LAUNCHED the eco16 filter app for air filters in HVAC systems.
The tool facilitates and optimizes the filter se- lection and offers customers the correct balance between filtration efficiency and energy con- sumption for a defined indoor air quality.
Thus, it helps to reduce the customer’s total cost of ownership.
It is the first system on the market based on the ISO 16890 standard. It shows
customers the actual indoor air
quality that a given filtration effi-
ciency will achieve at their location. The tool also calculates the en- ergy consumption for the pro- posed filters and improves filter selection to deliver the best possi-
ble balance between filtration efficiency and energy consumption for a defined level of in- door air quality.
Eco16 also predicts indoor air quality based on local ambient outdoor air quality. Calculations can be made for a range of commercial applica- tions including offices, stores, residential build- ings, warehouses and public buildings.
The calculator app is the result of many years of experience analyzing in- door air quality, as well as nearly 100 years spent in the filtration business. In fact, the new ISO 16890 standard is based on proposals that the company’s Swedish develop- ment department first submitted back in 2009.
Labor announces pay guarantee for tradies
TRADIES WORKING ON government pro- jects will have their pay cheques preserved if their employer goes bust, under a new policy an- nounced by the Labor Opposition.
The Tradie Pay Guarantee would require busi- nesses down the supply chain get paid on time including subcontractors.
In a statement released last month, Opposi- tion Leader Bill Shorten also announced $7 mil- lion for a Tradie Litigation Fund to allow regula- tors to take “dodgy bosses” to court.
“Not only will this give tradies their day in court, it will also act both as a punishment and deterrent for dodgy directors,” the state- ment read.
“People who deliberately burn their compa- nies should be subject to the full consequences of failing directors’ duties, including being lia- ble for compensation, fines of up to $200,000 or five years behind bars.”
The building industry is burdened every year by an estimated $3 billion in unpaid debts including subcon- tractor payments.
In 2018 alone 1,642 construction businesses became insolvent, accord- ing to the Australian Subcontractors Association (ASA).
Last year the federal government com- pleted a review of Security of Payment
payment for
contractors.
AMCA executive director, Sum-
it Oberoi, said competition is fierce among contractors.
“The situation is made worse because tenders are often selected based on the lowest price,” he said.
“Security of payment is also a big concern because most subcon- tractors are small to medium sized enterprises, often they are family owned businesses.”
