KSB valve range
THE LUXEMBOURG-BASED KSB subsidiary SISTO Armaturen S.A. is extending its current range by launching its proven SISTO-16TWA valve type series with new materials for wetted components.
The new valves, which made their debut at ISH 2019 (10 – 15 March), are an advanced de- velopment meeting the rising European re- quirements on metal materials, plastics and elastomers for use with drinking water.
In order to prevent legionella growth, the valve must be able to handle high water temperatures over a long period of time. To ensure this, the manufacturer now uses high-grade stainless steel for the self-draining valve body designed without any dead volumes. The peroxide-free and sulphur-free elastomer diaphragms of the

new valve with KTW W270 approval have been developed in-house. They are designed for continuous operating temperatures of 90 °C and meet the elastomer regulations of the German Environment Agency applicable from 2022. The new hydraulically optimised type series is suitable for a maximum permis- sible operating pressure of 16 bar. It is availa- ble in nominal sizes from DN 15 to DN 200. Sizes DN 125, DN 150 and DN 200 are available in the proven variants with plastic-coated grey cast iron body.
Thermal sensor technology
WITH THE LAUNCH of its state-of-the-art ST80 Series Thermal Mass Flow Meter featuring Adaptive Sensor Technology, the measurement
bar has been reset even higher. Fluid Components Internation- al’s (FCI) AST thermal mass flow technology for the ST80 Flow Me- ters features an inno- vative hybrid sensor drive. This patent- pending measuring technique combines, for the first time, both of the indus- try’s highly proven
constant power (CP) and constant temperature (CT) thermal dispersion sensing technologies in the same instrument.
Complementing this new measurement drive technique are a choice of four different flow sensor element designs to further ensure best installed performance, including FCI’s new wet gas solution. The ST80 meters can op- tionally provide two unique calibration groups. For example, the meter can be calibrated for two different compositions of mixed gases or two completely different gases.

AI POWERED AIR CONDITIONING
LG Electronics has introduced an artificial intelligence-powered air conditioning system.
The 2019 model of its premium Whisen ThinQ air conditioner went on show in Korea at the Heating, Air-Conditioning, Refrigeration and Fluid Exhibition.
The system works with a sensor that constantly measures the temperature of the room’s ceiling and floor to make sure the entire space is evenly cooled or heated.
A sensor detecting people was also upgraded so that it can recognize whether someone is in the room at a speed three times faster than the previous version. The air conditioner will automatically turn itself on and
off accordingly.

can be controlled with voice commands. For example, a user can order the air conditioner to lower the temperature without having to search for the remote controller.
Danfoss gets smart
IN DANFOSS’ COMPRESSOR factory in Wuqing, China, automatically-guided vehicles drive up and down the aisles and supply work- ers with components.
The same workers use intelligent Bluetooth connected tools that automatically tell if an as- sembly process is incorrectly performed.
Advanced auto-visual monitoring of com- pressor parts check for errors throughout the entire assembly process.
The use of these smart technologies has paid off for Danfoss with, employee productivity up by 30 per cent, and scrap costs down by 20 per cent. And, now, Danfoss in Wuqing has made it onto the World Economic Forum’s list of 16 of the world’s smartest factories.
