   Going for gold
WELCOME TO 2022 AND ANOTHER CHALLENGING YEAR AHEAD AS WE LEARN TO LIVE WITH THIS ENDLESS PANDEMIC.
Sandra Rossi – Editor
ALL WE CAN do is stay safe, count our blessings and maintain an attitude of gratitude.
Fortunately we are part of an industry that is growing every year, in fact Australian Refrigera- tion Council figures show we now have 115,000 licensed technicians across the country.
I remember just a few short years ago when the figure was closer to 80,000. We are also starting to attract the best and brightest school leavers.
These are the students that would normally head straight to university, they now realise that a trade is a worthy career choice. It isn’t just well paid; technicians don’t have to deal with the bur- den of student loans.
We showcase some of these superstars in this is- sue of the magazine as part of our NextGen launch for 2022.
Once again CCN has partnered with the Austral- ian Refrigeration Council to promote our industry and support future talent.
NextGen is only in its third year so it was excit- ing to see the high number of NextGen partici- pants that dominated the WorldSkills competition in 2021.
It is proof that NextGen technicians are going places and making an impact.
Congratulations to our NextGen superstars from the year 2020 – Ryan Harris and Tom Clan- cy – who have made the 2022 Skills Squad. They will compete in the 46th WorldSkills Interna- tional in Shanghai in October 2022 as part of Team Australia.
It is a new year so let’s create new opportunities and go for gold. ✺
