TECHNIQUE
The Bushfire Vase finishes, left to right:
Kauri: Soap finish on bare timber, shou sugi ban sealed with shellac gently brushed on, gilding on red paint inside cracks with Xanthorrhoea resin brushed over the top.
Queensland maple: Cloudy ammonia wiped on, then washed off before polishing with grass tree resin, partial grain filling using pumice powder, light shou sugi ban.
Spotted gum: Heavy shou sugi ban sealed with two brushed coats of shellac, polished with shellac, pulling the carbon from the burned areas onto the unburnt areas, glass resin drip attached with epoxy.
