vehicles. The level of PPE should be consistent with the standards used every day in your workplace. Certified Class 0 (linesman’s gloves) and rubber soled boots will ensure that you are insulated form the HV and the ground.
Working with HV requires that a technician must ensure he/she and their work place are safe. Ensuring HV is isolated and con- firmed. Never assume that the HV is discharged in a HV system without first checking through the use of a good quality multim- eter. Only then is it safe to work on the vehicle. When working with HV vehicles, the key should be removed and placed away from the vehicle and then the disarming procedures can begin.
In a work area, the vehicle in question should also have HV warning signs placed on the turret to ensure that everyone in the workshop is aware the vehicle is HV. The technician needs to be made aware what it is, that it is safe and everyone working on the vehicle is trained in regards to HV.
The number of HV vehicles coming to our shores will increase every year and the potential that these vehicles will be repaired in facilities with technicians not trained in handling HV will also in- crease. It is vital that safety is understood so the technicians will go home at the end of the day, safely. These systems are capable of causing severe injury or even death.
