Better building milestone
THE INTERNATIONAL WELL Building Insti- tute (IWBI) has passed the 500-million-square- foot mark of buildings registered and certified under the WELL Building Standard (WELL).
The milestone quickly follows an earlier announcement that the number of WELL Ac- credited Professionals (APs) and registrants has exceeded 10,000.
Globally, more than half a billion square feet of projects use WELL in nearly 60 coun- tries. IWBI chair and CEO, Rick Fedrizzi, said with more than 4,000 projects in nearly 60 countries and spanning all space types – of- fices, schools, hotels, residences and more – it’s clear that this second wave of sustainabil- ity has gathered powerful momentum.
Over the course of 2019, nearly four times as many new projects registered to pursue WELL as throughout all of 2018, according to IWBI president, Rachel Gutter.
“Halfway to a billion is one thing, but what’s truly remarkable is the pace of adop- tion,” she said.
“WELL entered the market in 2014, and it took roughly four years to reach 250 million square feet, but it’s only taken a year to double that to a half-billion. While that’s a potent mar- ket signal, it really reflects an unbelievable rise of a dedicated community around the world that is committed to investing in health.”
L to R: Eurovent Middle East managing director, Markus Lattnew and president, Brian Suggitt.
SYSTEMAIR UAE MANAGING director, Brian Suggitt, has been re-elected president of Eurovent Middle East, for his third consecutive term.
Suggitt was re-elected at Eurovent’s annual general meeting last month.
Under the tagline “Making a difference by driving change”, Suggitt said he will focus on en- ergy efficiency, IAQ, retrofitting to enhance building efficiencies and improving cold chain security and efficiency.
He highlighted a number of product areas that needed attention. For example, he said belt driv- en fans and FEG fan measurements should be a “thing of the past once and for all.”
“We should continue to drive fraudulent prod- ucts out of the market,” Suggitt said.
“Every cold storage should have an air curtain, and no strips. Also, smart air handlers should be the norm along with supplying the correct con- trol system to maximise their energy efficiency.”
