Trifecta of trouble
THE TRIFECTA OF DROUGHT, BUSHFIRES, AND VIRUS FEARS HAS MADE US ALL
A LITTLE UNCERTAIN ABOUT BUSINESS CONDITIONS IN 2020.
Sandra Van Dijk – Editor
THAT’S NOT SURPRISING, caution tends to rule amid uncertainty. It infects business decisions and adds to a general slowdown in the broader economy.
The latest business performance figures from the Ai Group show a contraction in business activ- ity for January, the very first month of the year.
At the same time PwC has released research showing that 80% of Australian CEOs are con- cerned about economic growth in 2020.
It all adds up to a challenging environment re- minding us to seek out opportunity wherever we can find it.
I am excited about the year ahead despite signs of deteriorating business conditions. I am choosing to remain optimistic.
We are the fortunate ones, we are part of an in- dustry that is in high demand and has a big future. There will always be tough times, that just means tough decisions. There is never room for
complacency.
According to the PwC research, CEOs who re-
main confident in these uncertain times are those that believe in their ability to succeed.
They know they have the skills to differentiate.
They will find a way to distinguish themselves, collaborate, explore new growth opportunities and think long term.
A big part of thinking long term is investing in your workforce, which is what NextGen is all about. Have you nominated yet?
Your support is an important part of NextGen’s success, especially if you have female apprentices, we would love them to nominate.
Only a fraction of women become refrigeration and air conditioning technicians. In vocational ed- ucation the number of women that complete a trade is less than one in 10.
This is why we desperately need to extend the talent pool. One part of the RAC pipeline problem is a lack of diversity. Help us create the next genera- tion of RAC technicians.
Help us encourage more women to join the trade. We need an industry that reflects the diver- sity of the Australian population.
We also need to improve HVACR visibility. We can do both through the NextGen program. But we need you to nominate. Time is running out, nomi- nations close next month.
