Retailer trials R-454C refrigerant
LEFT: UK’s Central England Co- operative is trialling Opteon XL20.
Central England Co-Operative is developing a 10-year F-Gas strategy. The retailer already has experience retrofitting existing R-404A systems to mid-range <1500 GWP HFO blends.
The design was created according to the guid- ance in EN378 and installed by Oak Refrigeration following a rigorous risk assessment from Cool Concerns, a consultant, to ensure safe use in this type of application.
Luke Collins, managing director of Oak Re- frigeration, said the installation was straightfor- ward and commissioning went smoothly and without incident using R-454C set-up data pro- vided by Chemours and with support from engi- neering consultants, Wave, to optimize the sys- tem for best energy performance.
Kevin Collins, head of Facilities at Central England Co-Operative, de-
scribed it as a ground-break-
ing installation.
UK-BASED RETAILER,
THE CENTRAL ENGLAND CO-OPERATIVE, HAS COMMENCED A LIVE TRIAL OF OPTEON XL20 (R-454C) REFRIGERANT.
THE HFO BLEND, A2L refrigerant is being tri- alled at its new convenience store at Langley Park. Central England Co-Op was looking for a so- lution with the lowest possible GWP (global warming potential) that would maintain the ad- vantages of the familiar HFCs (e.g., R-404A) in terms of ease of installation and maintenance, cost efficiency, safety, and energy efficiency, and concluded that Opteon XL20, with a GWP of
148, could satisfy these requirements.
The Chemours Company said this is the first
of two trial stores featuring A2L technologies.
“It proves that we can have a sustainable, long-term solu- tion to meet our corporate strategy without compromis- ing performance and efficiency and, at best, cost,” Collins said.
“Other low GWP solutions considered, such as propane sec- ondary and CO2 booster sys- tems, were excluded as these did not meet our selection criteria.”
Building performance standard introduced
EUROPEAN INDUSTRY GROUPS have an- nounced the introduction of the COPILOT Cer- tificate claiming its the world's first building and facility certificate.
COPILOT certifies building commissioning based on dedicated protocols and has been devel- oped by experts from a dozen countries.
Details of the building performance standard were outlined in a joint statement issued by Eu- rovent, the Federation of European Heating, Venti- lation and Air Conditioning Associations (REHVA) and building automation specialist, synavision.
The statement said the COPILOT Certificate has set a new European standard for the con- struction industry.
“Builders can use the certificate to ensure that their buildings undergo effective quality man- agement,” the statement said.
“In collaboration with accredited Commis- sioning Managers, COPILOT verifies that the design-construction-operation cycle complies with client objectives and best practice.”
COPILOT president, Erick Melquiond, said building owners are struggling with complex technical systems in their buildings.
“Thanks to the COPILOT certification, they can now confidently rely on the performance of their buildings,” he said.
COPILOT also certifies technical monitoring based on Germany’s AMEV 135 standard.
The technical basis of the certification is the “digital test bench” software of synavision GmbH. Managing director of synavision, Dr Stefan Plesser, said that in future the certification of
buildings must be created digitally to cope with a multitude of facilities.
“That’s why we’re proud to be part of this ambitious quality management alliance. Digital audit servic- es such as technical monitoring, commissioning management and due diligence pave the way for a new level of building quality,” Plessersaid.
REHVA president, Frank Hovorka, stressed the importance of “in operation” certification as a new basis for assessing building
investment:
“Investors are looking for reliable
sustainable construction projects. With our new data-based building certification system, we enable inves- tors to significantly improve risk man- agement for their buildings,” he said.
