IMMERSION COOLING TOOL
Cooling accounts for 40% of the electricity consumed in a data centre so its not surprising to learn that interest in immersion cooling technologies has generated a lot of interest.
However, immersion cooling vendor, Green Revolution Cooling (GRC) believes there is still a lot of confusion in the market surrounding the technology.
As a result GRC has partnered with Asperitas to educate the global data centre ecosystem about data centre immersion cooling technologies.
GRC CEO, Peter Poulin, said the newly developed vendor-agnostic website is a key tool for operators looking to educate themselves on immersion and get answers to technical questions about liquid cooling.
Despite being competitors, the two companies are also collaborating on white papers and standards in the Open Compute Project (OCP).
Mega acquisition
leads to market shakeup
IN A DEAL that is set to be the largest data cen- tre merger ever, Digital Realty Trust has agreed to acquire European data centre giant, Interx- ion, for $US8.4 billion.
Funded entirely by a stock swap, the transac- tion will make US company Digital Europe’s sec- ond largest data centre provider after Equinix.
Digital Realty Trust has agreed to acquire Eu- ropean data centre provider Interxion for $8.4 billion in a transaction that will make San Fran- cisco-based Digital Europe’s second-largest data centre provider, after Equinix.
Both companies are major players in the data

centre market. For example, Digital Realty has more than 200 centres across the globe while In- terxion has more than 50 data centres across London and Europe.
More importantly, Interxion has numerous submarine cables linking Europe to Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
Interxion CEO David Ruberg said the deal would create a powerful offering for hyperscale cloud platforms.
When complete, the deal would take Digital Realty to 260 data centres worldwide. The US buyer plans to keep the Interxion name for its European business, branding it ‘Interxion, a Dig- ital Realty company.’
Digital Realty CEO Bill Stein will lead the com- pany once the transaction is finalized, and Ru- berg will run the combined EMEA business.
Once the deal is complete, Digital Realty and Interxion will be in a much stronger position to take on their biggest rival, Equinix.
However, Equinix CEO, Charles Meyers, didn’t necessarily agree pointing out that there may be some impact in Europe, but not on a global basis.
Even with the deal, Meyers said his compa- ny’s overwhelming dominance in the global re- tail colocation and interconnection market gave it a strong lead.
“I think it's a bit of a stretch to say that the combination really meaningfully closes the gap in terms of trying to replicate the scope, scale and value of Platform Equinix,” Meyers said dur- ing the company’s third-quarter earnings call. ✺
