  NORTH SHORE BMW BODYSHOP CREATION
IN LATE 2020 GLENN O’DONNELL APPROACHED LOWBAKE ON HIS NEXT PROJECT WHICH WAS THE CREATION OF A NEW BODY SHOP FOR NORTHSHORE BMW IN SYDNEY.
The whole paint shop had Lowbake’s overhead LED lighting system installed with an energy distribution system for cost effective lighting suitable for de- tailed repair work and detailing.
Lowbake provided a full turnkey de- livery of the project with all permits, fire systems, compressed air installation, as well as all gas lines and car wash instal- lation and approval. The company also produced a full 3D CAD model of the whole building which made it easy for the Sydney based installation team to assemble the project in record time, with all of the bespoke equipment com- ing from Lowbake’s automated manu- facturing facility in Melbourne.
The whole shop was commissioned and in early 2021 received BMW approv- al and is now running at full capacity.
O’Donnell said: “I’ve partnered with Lowbake many times in the past and they have never let me down. The product is al- ways improving, they never stop innovat- ing and it amazes me how the technology constantly evolves. They are also so much help with the design of a shop to ensure the optimal layout for the best workflow.”

five shops for O’Donnell, all BMW brand- ed. O’Donnell is probably the most expe- rienced BMW repairer in Australia. O’Donnell knew what he needed, and knew the quality of Lowbake’s products and that Lowbake was the only company that could supply the shop to exacting BMW standards and offer a turn key so- lution for the complete project.
O’Donnell was also running Macar- thur BMW Bodyshop in Narellan and had to rely on a quality and experienced sup- plier that could deliver in record time.
Mark Williams from Lowbake was committed to other projects in Sydney and his eldest son Chris took up the chal- lenge with shop design and delivery.
The facility was to be built in an exist- ing 3500m2 building right next to the Northshore BMW service centre in Hotham Parade Artarmon.
The project involved construction over three separate factories – which was challenging as fire separation of the
buildingswasanissue–aswellasacom- plete refit of office and other facilities.
Lowbake had a very short time frame of only a few months to design, manufacture and deliver during the Covid 2020 year.
Firstly all buildings were scanned and a 3 D model created so that Lowbake design- ers could come up with a complete package.
O’Donnell also specified an area for composite repairs and EV handling – all to BMW specifications.
The final design included two Low- bake ALPHA booths with full glazing and the industry leading air ramp sys- tem with its unique foot crush design on the ramp for safety.
Next to the two booths are three full downdraught preparation bays all with integrated ducted vacuum, each with a sliding powered moving IR and UV cur- ing system for rapid paint curing.
Behind the preparation bays is a fully glazed mix room built to the new AS / NZS 4114 :2020 standard as well as full gun wash facilities.
