in evidence in the new Centre. The glass entry doors feature printed decals and lead directly into the Ideas Lab, which is dominated by a floor-to-ceiling, tactile, faux-brick wall created using Océ’s dimensional Touchstone print technology.
Printed coffee cup holders and ceramic tile coasters are on a range of print-topped tables and even a printed canvas ottoman, with the glow
from a lamp with a printed shade. Vibrant posters produced on the Océ ColorWave printer using a number of different media provide a practical illustration of the different effects that can be achieved.
The media versatility of the
Océ printer range is further demonstrated in the CEC’s showpiece – a multimedia printed wall featuring everything from acrylics and MDF, to glass and ceramic tiles, display boards and corrugated iron.
In an adjacent, glass-panelled area, are the Océ machines from both
the Display Graphics and Technical Document Systems ranges, including Arizona, Colorado and Pro-Cut.
It is not all about wide-format though, the Océ continuous feed
and sheetfed inkjet presses haven’t been forgotten, with plenty of applications created on these devices also showcased at the facility, giving printers an idea of their capabilities. “The Ideas Lab is central to the concept of this Customer Experience Centre – it demonstrates in practice how ideas and inspiration can be translated
into a profitable reality using Océ technology,” Nethercott said. 21
Experience Centre
Dozens of Australian printers were at the official launch of the new Océ Customer Experience Centre in Clayton, with Océ Oceania managing director Craig Nethercott saying the new centre is all about applications. Wayne Robinson reports from the event.
The new Océ Customer Experience Centre has been developed as a place where printers can explore opportunities and business
development, drawing on the global expertise and knowledge of Océ.
Speaking to Print21 at the event Océ Oceania managing director Craig Nethercott said, “The Customer Experience Centre is an opportunity for customers and suppliers to share in our vision. We are focusing on a broader vision. We are not about speeds and feeds – this is about looking at the endless opportunities, why Océ offers a point of difference to printers, and how we and they can add more value.”
Nethercott says it is called the Customer Experience Centre rather than showroom “because the vision is to connect to our customers. It is not a product demonstration. It is
to understand how we as a company can support our customers, and to understand the technology, and find opportunities to answer the question, where are we going to make money? We want to open the imagination.”
Nethercott said, “The new generation of Océ print solutions really opens up multiple possibilities.”
The Customer Experience Centre had its origins 18 months ago, when

Océ became a stand-alone business in the Canon Group, the focus was to offer a greater commitment and stronger partnerships than ever before. Nethercott and the senior Océ management team then set about implementing this focus
and decided one of the best ways
to connect with the market was through a Customer Experience Centre. He said, “The vision was for connection and opportunity. We wanted to show how Océ technology can deliver business growth, open new market opportunities.
“The Océ vision is to ‘inspire the world of print, to print the world’
– and in this Customer Experience Centre we are bringing the best print technology to our world-leading
print service providers right here in Australia, so that they can explore the possibilities for their own businesses.”
Using a range of flexible and rigid media, the team illustrated the Océ versatility, producing a diverse array of applications on the spot, while more were on show in what Nethercott calls the Ideas Lab – a space packed full of inspirational applications designed to get print service providers thinking outside the box.
