3-Phase to Single-Phase AC Conversion
with Balanced 3-Phase Load Currents
Single-phase loads represent a complex problem for the 3-phase utilities found in ships. In fact, MIL-STD-1399-300B requires all phase currents to be balanced to within ± 3%. It is impossible to achieve this degree of phase-to-phase current balance in a 3-phase system with significant single-phase loads. To deal with this problem, SynQor has developed an electronic solution: The Military-Grade AC Changer (MAC). The MAC isolates 3-phase sources from single-phase loads through a DC mid bus. The MAC appears to 3-phase sources as a well-behaved, clean, unity power factor, MIL-STD-1399-300B compliant, balanced load. The MAC also provides voltage conversion from 440 VAC to single-phase 115/230 VAC commonly required by single- phase electronic loads, eliminating the need for heavy, bulky transformers. In addition, the MAC provides galvanic, noise and transient isolation, as well as many other benefits.
