     PAN SUPPORTS SOMMERVILLE SMASH
PAN SPRAYBOOTHS RECENTLY COMPLETED A MAJOR INSTALLATION OF PAINT SHOP EQUIPMENT FOR SOMMERVILLE SMASH REPAIRS AT THEIR HIGHLY IMPRESSIVE FACILITY IN NERANG, QUEENSLAND.
HE NERANG OPERATION OF
Sommerville Smash Repairs has been established since 1999 af- ter they outgrown their original premises in Southport. A high vol- ume repair shop with fast key to key times, owners Chris and Shari Agnew found they had reached their maximum output with the existing paint shop area which was
also not the ideal configuration.
The acquisition of adjoining premises
allowed the couple to redesign the work- flow and business layout and to expand the paint shop area with the introduction of new spray booths, a mixing room and preparation bays. The equipment chosen is the flagship of the Pan spray booths passenger vehicle range – the “Pan Plati- num”. The “Platinum” is an Italian manu- factured cabin with European software which allows up-to nine different pro- grams for the painting process.
The cabins purchased are nine me- tres long allowing for component parts
and vehicles to be painted at the same time. The air handling unit using 11kw backward curve turbine fan units is manufactured at Pan’s premises in Syd- ney. The 11kw turbine fans are also manufactured in Italy. The direct fired gas heaters fitted into the air handling unit have a capacity of 1000 MegaJoules per hour resulting in rapid heat rise when transitioning between spray mode and flash off cycle allowing waterborne basecoat to ‘matt off’ very quickly.
The unique “PIR” flame resistant insu- lated panel coated with 0.8mm steel both sides in a bright white colour allows tem- peratures of up-to 120 degrees. With the increased introduction of composite ma- terials this temperature range can be a major advantage. The six tube “LED” light fixtures in the spray booth offer an even distribution of light generated eco- nomically. Chris had undertaken his re- search and knew exactly the layout and configuration of the equipment he want-
ed. The final result was two Plantinum nine metre spray booths, a 3.6m x 6m paint mixing room with a stainless- steel island mixing bench, a stand alone spray out unit and an infra-red dryer behind the paint mix room in a vestibule area.
The three Pan preparation bays in- clude spray out test card booths and masking machines all integrated into the rear wall. Four tube “LED” lighting was supplied within the roof panels. The prep area also was fitted with a primer enclosure with stainless steel cabinets.
Chris and his team are delighted with the result with the refinishers much happi- er and more productive in their new envi- ronment. “It’s taken the bottleneck away from my business and the staff love it. My detailers have 30% more time in their day – that’s how clean the jobs are coming out.”
