Significantly that approach came shortly after the Six Day War when Israel achieved a stunning victory over her Arab neigh- bours, with modest aircraft losses.
Yet Israel couldn’t make good on those losses as France had imposed an arms em- bargo, refusing to supply 50 Mirages or- dered before the war.
Israel’s solution was suitably imagina- tive. It proceeded to build its own Mi- rage derivatives, a process aided by an almost complete set of blueprints for the Mirage Atar engines stolen from Switzerland.
