ALUMINIUM QUIZ
THANKS FOR I-CAR FOR THIS QUICK ALUMINIUM QUIZ. TEST YOUR PANEL TECHNICIANS AND IF THEY GET ONE WRONG THEN BOOK THEM IN FOR ONE OF THE COURSES LISTED BELOW.
NEW RUPES KS300 DUST EXTRACTION
IF INHALED, PARTICLES OF DUST FROM
commonly used paint and panel com- pounds can travel deep into your lungs and cause long-term damage, and that’s why dust extraction has become best practice for a clean, safe workshop.
Depending on your shop, a mobile dust extraction unit is a cost-effective means for achieving this and the all-new RUPES KS300 is the most powerful, effi- cient, non-turbine mobile dust extrac- tion unit in the RUPES stable.
It’s compact, manoeuvrable and ready to work with pneumatic and electric sanders. Dual 1200-watt motors support two operators at one time with no loss of suction, and filtration is via a 3-step pro- cess over 5-metres2 of surface area for maximum dust extraction into a replace- able, 10 kg capacity bag.
Autostart and interlocking toolbox system improve work efficiency by start- ing automatically and locating tools and media right where you need it.
Visit workcleanandsafe.com.au to discov- er the right RUPES mobile dust extraction system for you.

ANSWER: Almost all OEMS state that complete replacement is the only option when a cast aluminium suspension tower is damaged due to the material being extremely brittle. Any type of repair could lead to major failure of the part.
ANSWER: If there is a larger diameter flow drill screw available, some OEM’s will allow that to be inserted as a replacement. If a larger screw is not available, complete replacement of the part may be the only option.
ANSWER: Aluminium MIG welding is the ONLY approved method used by OEMs. Even with the battery disconnected, the complex electrical systems can easily be damaged by the TIG welding process.
ANSWER: Clinching is a mechanical cold forming method to join two or more overlapping sheets without using rivets. The process is carried out without heat effect on the material structure so can be an extremely strong efficient way of joining panels together. Clinching is not carried out during the repair process at this moment in time. Rivets are usually the preferred replacement option.
ANSWER: Annealing the aluminium panel can cause significant damage to the structure of the material. Aluminium panels are manufactured to produce a certain strength which is done by either heat treatment or through the forming or work hardening process. Heating the aluminium to the annealing temperature will permanently change the material composition.
