SLASH PREP TIME
Cromax has launched two new products, designed to work to- gether, completely changing the preparation process. The VOC- compliant Ultra Performance Energy Surfacer and Metal Pre- treatment Wipes offer a faster and more flexible process thanks to innovative technology. The Ultra Performance Energy Sur- facer comes in three different shades - PS1081 (white), PS1084 (mid-grey) and PS1087 (black). Each surfacer dries in only 20 to 40 minutes and is ready to sand immediately.
PS1800 metal pretreatment wipes must be used first on bare
metal substrates in order for the surfacer to work properly. The wipes come ready-to-use, saturated in an innovative acid that offers excellent adhesion and corrosion protection for the metal substrate. In use, the wipes are more productive than conventional primers, with no flash-off time and there’s no gun to clean afterwards.
The new Ultra Performance Energy Surfacer is easy to apply, in up to four coats, without flash-off times. It also has a very good vertical stability. Once dry, it delivers a smooth surface and out- standing gloss hold-out after top coating.
Jim Iliopolous, Axalta’s product and technical manager, says, “These products offer bodyshops a new era of productivity and performance record. After stringent testing, it offers refinishers drying times that are three times faster than a standard air dry surfacer. In addition, there’s no time consuming moving of IR equipment around the bodyshop. And together with the Ultra Performance Energy Clear CC6700, the new surfacer can also help to reduce energy consumption drastically. They work to- gether seamlessly to help our bodyshops achieve brilliant re- sults, quickly and productively.”

VERSATILE MAXIGLAZE SHINES
OVER WATER AND SOLVENT
In the PROTEC tradition, the all new MaxiGlaze Clearcoat is locally de- veloped and manufactured to give local users excellent versatility, along with exceptional gloss.
Whether you use the Aquamax Extra waterborne basecoat sys- tem or the Paraglaze solventborne basecoat system, you can now take advantage of Protec’s new MaxiGlaze clearcoat. Given its name, there should be no surprise that this thoroughly modern formulation fulfils one of the primary roles of a refinish clearcoat by producing a superbly glossy finish.
Because it utilises the latest in ‘high solids’ global clearcoat resin
technology, MaxiGlaze is actually an easy product for painters to ap-
ply. As a result, it lays down and flows smoothly – it works just as well
over AquaMax Extra waterborne as it does over Paraglaze solventborne
– and leaves an exceptional finish, along with nice crisp clarity, straight- off-the-gun. What’s more, its broad capabilities are ideal for today’s refinish paint shop where it can tackle jobs ranging from a single panel right through to
a full respray. Users also have the option to apply MaxiGlaze in traditional two
visit mode or in high productivity
‘tack and wack’ mode – a medium coat
over the whole job before immediately returning
to the start and applying a full wet coat. When a smaller job needs to be pushed through quickly, users can take advantage of an accelerated mode – by using the special acceler- ated thinner, bake time is reduce to just 20 minutes @ 60°C. No matter which mode you use, MaxiGlaze Clearcoat features excellent polishability – if it needs polishing at all.
Another crucial function of a clearcoat is to provide strong protection for the underlaying paint layers and this is another area where MaxiGlaze really shines. Because it was formu- lated by Protec’s local development team, it has had a range of crucial characteristics built in to ensure it will perform under our harsh local conditions. This includes plenty of UV ab- sorbers to counteract the high levels of ultra violet rays encountered across this region.
