CHANGES FOR CERTIFIED
AFTERMARKET PARTS
AUTO PARTS GROUP EXPLAINS THE CAPA PART CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOLLOWING NSF INTERNATIONAL’S ANNOUNCEMENT THAT IT WILL CEASE PARTS CERTIFICATION WORLDWIDE.
IN JULY 2019 THE PARTS
certifier NSF International an- nouncedtheendofitsautomo- tive certified replacement parts program, with all certification to cease
worldwide on the 30 September 2019. Certified replacement parts use has been growing throughout the industry for the past few years, with both repair- ers and insurers recognising that certi- fied parts offer a genuine alternative to
OEM replacement parts.
What does this mean for the Aus-
tralian market and the withdrawal of NSF International?
One of the longest
established parts cer-
tifiers, CAPA, has
made a commitment
with Auto Parts Group to ex-
pand the range of its certified parts in Australia, with repairers being able to take advantage of certificated replace- ment parts across a greater number of brands, models, and parts than ever before.
Auto Parts Group, the national parts supplier, and CAPA have been at the core of Q Parts, Australia’s first Certified Parts Program since its inception over a decade ago. The certification process was introduced by Auto Parts Group to ensure that the Australian market was served with quality certified parts, as- suring O.E.M. levels of fit, form and function, giving the repair market qual- ity, choice, and margin generation, whilst at the same time lowering total repair costs, the company says.
30 YEARS
EXPERIENCE
CAPA has been certifying re- placement parts for over 30 years, including metal pan- els, plastics and more recent-
ly lighting, with all its certifi- cations independently audited by Intertek on an on-going basis.
After the recent announcement by NSF International that their own parts certification program would crease worldwide, CAPA Chairman, Clark Plu- cinski, said: “CAPA will work individu- ally with various stakeholders to mini- mize the impact of recent changes in the automotive parts certification business.
“We understand that the recent devel- opments in the aftermarket parts certifi- cation industry have caused concern amongst stakeholders, but CAPA is fully committed to servicing the industry with the same diligence and passion we have since our founding. The CAPA standards are approved by a multi-in- dustry Technical committee who meet regularly to review, develop and ap- prove any changes”.
To date, CAPA has certified over 105 mil- lion parts, and currently has nine publicly available certification standards.
