Research found that non-residential smart buildings will account for 90 per cent of smart building spend globally in 2026; at a similar level to 2022.
This dominance is due to the larger economies of scale in commercial premises driving this spend, as well as the commercial focus of most smart building technologies.
However, co-author of the research, Dawnetta Grant, said there will be plenty of opportunities in the residential market.
“Smart building platform vendors will under- standably focus on non-residential use cases, as these provide a stronger return on investment, but they should not neglect the importance of residential deployments, as environmental con- cerns intensify,” Grant said.
The research found that the global ship- ments of sensors used in smart buildings will exceed 1 billion annually in 2026 from 360 mil- lion in 2022; representing a growth of 204 per cent. Sensors, when combined with intelligent management platforms, will allow smart buildings to adapt to conditions; matching el- ements such as lighting, heating and ventila- tion to live requirements.
The report recommends that smart building vendors partner with AI vendors to maximise the benefits of automation, such as reduced en- ergy costs and improved working environments.

INTESIS HAS IMPROVED the LG VRF to KNX Interface, which enables full control and moni- toring of up to 16 or 64 indoor units from any KNX device or system.
The interface is compatible with all LG con- trollers and keeps the KNX system permanently updated with the latest parameters, not only from all the connected indoor units, but some outdoor units’ signals which are avail- able for the integration as well.
With this interface there is direct access to an outdoor unit’s communication bus. It was developed in collaboration with the LG fac- tory to be compatible with air conditioning, ventilation and air to water systems, provid- ing energy efficiency and effective preventive maintenance.
The interface is configured with MAPS, the powerful tool for easy commissioning with VRF Scan Function for automatic identifica- tion of the unit’s presence in the VRF system. Intesis MAPS makes it easy to identify any mal-
function in the installations thanks to its robust diagnostic feature.
Intesis has already started delivering projects with this solution – working together with JUNG Korea, last month the company participated in an important resort project and details will be shared soon.
