UNLOCK PROFIT POTENTIAL WITH PPG
WHEN IT COMES TO UNLOCKING POTENTIAL PERFORMANCE IN YOUR COLLISION CENTRE, ACCORDING TO PPG THE SIMPLEST, YET MOST EFFECTIVE SOLUTIONS, ARE AN AUDIT AND AN ACTION PLAN.
T IS A COMMON INDUSTRY
scenario: a collision centre owner will recognise there is an issue within the business, but they are not quite able to put
their finger on the root cause.
It could be that profits are down or re-
works are up or there is a production bot- tleneck or parts issues, and so on and so on. This is exactly what an ‘Audit’ and ‘Action Plan’, from PPG’s MVP Business Solutions team, is designed for.
The team can provide an in-depth business health check that not only identifies any issues, it also provide structured and straightforward path- ways to achieve effective solutions, com- plete with ongoing support.
AUDIT TO UNCOVER ISSUES
Although very straightforward, a colli- sion centre ‘Audit’ is one of the most powerful and regularly used tools in the MVP Business Solutions toolbox. After arranging a suitable time for a visit from their own MVP Business Solutions Man- ager, the owner just needs to sit back and wait for the results.
Using a special checklist, the MVP Busi- ness Solutions Manager will systematical- ly observe the day-to-day operations of the shop from top to bottom. This typically takes around three to five hours.
On the checklist are 50 questions for each of the panel, paint and administration departments and each is scored against the
latest best practices. In addition, lots of photos are taken to record a snapshot of a relevant moment and make it easier to refer back in a ‘before’ and ‘after’ scenario.
It’s about auditing the
processes, the flow and the functionality of the business.”
It is important to understand that this is not about auditing people: it’s about auditing the processes, the flow and the functionality of the business. The Audit works great for individual collision re- pairers but is just as effective for multi- shop operations (MSO).
CALL TO ACTION
While the aim of the Audit is to clearly expose the root causes of any issues, the Action Plan is all about providing the means to achieve a solution. Rather than potentially overwhelm the owner with a long list of actions to perform, the Ac- tion Plan breaks the process down into bite sized pieces.
Starting with the most critical is- sues to tackle, the Action Plan con- tains just five ‘actions’ related to each department: panel, paint and admin- istration. Each of those five actions comes with a step-by-step pathway to rectifying it, along with a timeline for completion and a person responsible for seeing it through.
Importantly, the Action Plan comes with as much support as you need to get the job done. What is more, this is not designed as a one-shot fix, it is a contin- uous improvement process.
Once the first five actions have been ticked off, the shop is given another five actions to complete and then another five and so on. At a certain point, anoth- er Audit can be completed to kickstart the process again and continue target- ting and fixing issues in order to help the business achieve its goals.
Best of all, the Audit and Action Plan process is included in the package of sup- port services you get as a PPG customer.
