Warning to focus on performance, not price
CHAIR OF THE Middle East chapter of Eu- rovent, Brian Suggitt, has warned of the dangers of installing substandard systems.
He said the focus should be on performance not price.
“We are seeing enormous cost pressure on all parties in the construction sector, and this pres- sure is likely to increase throughout the next year,” Suggitt said.
“It is imperative that we make all stakeholders aware of the consequences and costs to be in- curred if cooling and ventilation installations are treated carelessly and looked at purely from a cost perspective.”
His comments were published in Eurovent’s end of year report for 2019.
“The unnecessary cost paid through increased energy consumption, consequent increase in main- tenance costs, fungal growth resultant in sick build- ing syndrome and personal health hazards can nev- er be worth the pure cost saving on poor equipment, installation or maintenance,” Suggitt said.
“In a market which, in previous years has been driven by price rather than performance, this re- sponsibility rests on authorities and industry alike.”
Eurovent Middle East is the region’s largest in- dustry association for energy efficiency, indoor air quality and cold chain solutions.
AT THE 2020 IIAR Natural Refrigeration Expo last month, Danfoss introduced three new inno- vations: the complete integrated evaporator con- trol panel, semi-welded plate heat exchanger, and digital gas detector.
These products are the newest, most ad- vanced components from Danfoss' industrial re- frigeration solutions, which blend hardware with software to create customizable intelligent, en- ergy efficient, and cost-effective systems.
Danfoss said its advancements in innovative, custom integrated control solutions enable strong- er, more intelligent distributed and central sys- tems controls for industrial refrigeration systems.
“These technologies increase energy efficien- cy, ensure food safety, and help refrigeration sys- tems transition to alternative, climate-friendly refrigerants,” the company said.
“Available for new or retrofit projects, our com- plete integrated evaporator control panels are factory-programmed and configured to your specific application and support multiple defrost methods, all while controlling flooded and DX evaporators.” Its ammonia gas detection auto- matically closes hot gas and liquid feed valves and turns off evaporator fans. Lastly, the panel includes an evaporator microprocessor control- ler with either a door- or remote-mounted dis-
play and is packaged in a custom enclosure spe- cific to its appropriate environment.
Danfoss also introduced its SW19-59 range of semi-welded plate heat exchangers, which are spe- cifically designed, crafted, and tested to fit ammo- nia-based industrial refrigeration applications.
The SW19-59 range offers outstanding ther- mal performance due to its optimized plate ge- ometry that supports high turbulent flow, ena- bling a compact design and lower charge.
“Operational safety is essential in ammonia ap- plications, so we engineered a new gasket system to ensure high gasket stability and optimal plate alignment, enabling fast and easy installation, service, and maintenance while preventing gas- ket-blow out,” the compa-
safety requirements, ensuring a safe and regula- tion-compliant system. With a comprehensive set of safety features, basic to heavy duty Danfoss dig- ital gas detector models offer improved accuracy, simplified operator handling, automatic self-diag- nostics, password-protected alarms, and a smart calibration process that rejects sensors with low life-expectancy. Collectively, these features mini- mize risks based on system settings, calibration, and service errors for continuous safety.
For the first time ever, the digital gas detectors were on display in a harsh weather habitat to demonstrate their durability and environmen- tally-resistant performance.
