International technology company MGM Wireless is widely known for all its all-in-one children’s smartphone, watch and GPS tracker named Spacetalk, which assists in keeping kids safe. The wearable device enables parents to immediately know their child’s location via
a mobile phone app. Children can make and receive calls and text, but there is no access to the dangers of the Internet or social media. The Australian designed and developed device, aimed at four to 12 year olds, also features a stopwatch, step counter and torch. A special SOS alert function can be customised to call parents and other guardians if a child needs emergency help. The enhanced school-mode feature enables parents to specifically select which watch functions to disable during school hours to avoid classroom distractions. As far as STEM toys go The Amazing Annoyatron is an Australian success story. Designed by Michael Nixon, a high school student from Wagga Wagga NSW, the product has won multiple Australian innovation awards while its inventor was named as a finalist in the American Toy & Game Innovation Awards.
The Amazing Annoyatron is a fun, educational kit that teaches coding to kids age nine to 15 utilising STEM concepts. The kit contains all the parts needed to build and code more than 20 different projects designed to prank family and friends.
To create the projects in the kit, Nixon asked for input from kids the same age as those that would actually be using the set to discover the types of things they’d like to build. The result is gadgets that will drive people crazy trying to find the tell-tale ticking clock and freak people out with chatter from space aliens!
