A CELEBRATION OF THE REGION’S FINEST B&W PHOTOGRAPHY
The Mono Awards is the largest competition in the region celebrating the best black and white photography from Australia and New Zealand. Now in its fourth year, the single-image competition features three categories: Animals, People, and Places. It was judged by a panel of 12 respected industry experts – all masters of the medium – with specialisations covering landscape, portrait, documentary, advertising, and traditional print-making, amongst others.
Congratulations to the category winners, runners-up, and all the top placegetters whose brilliant images appear on the following pages. Recognition must also go to those whose work was deemed Highly Commended and Commended – well done! Notification for all those recognised will be sent via e-mail in the coming weeks.
Category winners of the 2022 competition are Steve Nicholls (Animals), Karen Waller (People), and Tebani Slade (Places). Runners-up are Mark Loh (Animals), Brennan Finighan (People), and Julie Kenny (Places). Congratulations! The winners and runners-up will share in a prize pool of $13,500, including $10,000 cash.
A very special thanks to our amazing panel of judges for their time, wisdom, and expertise to help decide the winners. Thanks also to them for sharing their top tips for producing amazing black and white images. You’ll find these pearls of wisdom scattered amongst the placegetters.
