Our History
Graham Funeral Home was founded by William H. Graham. Mr. Graham was born in Harrison on July 21, 1880, the oldest son of the late Samuel H. and Catherine Molloy Graham, and was educated in the Rye public schools. He began his career in association with his father in livery business, later entering the general contracting field. At one time he operated a restaurant and dance pavilion at the Rye Beach Amusement Park. For a number of years he was a general manager of the S.H. Graham Co., a moving and storage firm which he operated with his father. Later he formed the William H. Graham Funeral Home, having graduated from the Renouard College for Embalming in New York City. He operated first from the old Graham homestead on Elm Street. In 1918 he moved his business to its present location at 1036 Boston Post Road.
Mr. Graham was a founder and past member of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Funeral Directors Association. He was also a member of the New York State, Connecticut and National Funeral Directors Associations.
Upon his passing in 1962 his nephew, Edward Fitzsimmons took over the daily operations at the funeral home for the next 15 years. In 1978 the estate of Edward Fitzsimmons sold the funeral home to the Garrity family. Edward and Laurie Garrity together with their son Ed ran the funeral home until it was sold to the current owner Eugene M. Guarino in 2006.
