Dr. Daniel Andreae ’72
Dr. Daniel Andreae is a distinguished award winning academic at the University of Waterloo and the University of Guelph-Humber, where he teaches psychology. He is also a recognized and outstanding community advocate and leader for several causes, including brain research. During his time at NJC, he lived in Auvernier alongside a beautiful vineyard and says that his favourite part of day to day life in Switzerland was sharing meals with his pension family and learning about Swiss culture. Even though there was a routine with school every day, and travel or day trips on weekends, each day was different and stood out on its own as a unique experience.
Today, Dr. Andreae says he is able to appreciate what he learned more than ever, and that his experience at Neuchâtel Junior College resonates with him as a “bridge from childhood to adulthood”. Dr. Andreae plans to go back to Neuchâtel next summer to relive some of his memories and make new ones.
Neuchâtel Junior College is honoured and proud to have had alumnus Dr. Daniel Andreae as our Lead Patron for the 60th anniversary celebrations in 2016.
Nicole Strickland ’16
Nicole is an Officer Cadet in the Canadian Armed Forces, and in training at the Royal Military College to become a pilot in the Air Force. She says that her best trip was the trip to Bruges, where her grandfather, a WW2 veteran, and her family joined NJC for the Remembrance Day ceremony at the Menin Gate. For Nicole, her most treasured memory of her time at Neuchâtel Junior College was the experience in itself – hanging out by the lake, travelling with the school and planning weekend trips with friends. Her favourite parts of day-to-day life in Switzerland were grabbing a cappuccino at the train station on her way to school each morning, and looking out at the mountains across the lake during sunrise. Nicole says that NJC set her up for success in her future adventures and career, and also changed her as a person and helped her become more mature, responsible, independent and confident.
