any time when school is in session. If a trip overseas is not planned during the fall, Skype/telephone appointments are easily arranged for parent- teacher meetings, including a meeting with the Director of University Guidance regarding university placement.
NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
NJC is an official SAT Supplementary Test Centre, offering the November and December tests. Students who wish to write the SAT Test in October may do so at one of our fellow institutions in the Swiss Group of International Schools in Berne, Lausanne or Geneva. NJC will assist students in registering for these tests. It should be noted that if students wish to take a formal SAT Prep Course, they should plan to do so prior to departure for Neuchâtel. Once in Neuchâtel, further practice test support is available. Students planning a US application are also welcome to form SAT peer study groups in the fall. The ACT College readiness assessment test, equally-recognized by American Colleges, may also be taken within Switzerland; contact the Director of Admission for details.
LATE FALL THROUGH MID-WINTER
With observance to deadlines, university applications are made with the support of the Director of University Guidance.
END-JANUARY
Final 1st semester grades are forwarded to universities by NJC. The submission of all required Personal Statements of Experience (PSE) and supplementary application components are also submitted to universities at this time.
MID-APRIL AND END-JUNE
Mid-semester grades and final grades are forwarded to universities by NJC (per each university’s policy: electronically or via courier).
THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR
Advisee Groups | Additional, less formal university placement guidance takes place during weekly Advisee Group Meetings. Assigned groups of 8-10 students meet with a lead member of our teaching staff each week throughout the academic year to touch base and check in. A bond is formed among Advisee group members, for this is a forum to discuss everything that is happening during the year, including experiences with pension families, enhancing foreign language skills, travel opportunities, adjustments to being away from home, academic life and the future.
Guest Speakers | Through the Junior College’s international guest speaker series, NJC students hear inspiring stories and learn valuable lessons that inform their world view. Tales of travel, academic pursuits and interesting careers compel students to envision their own futures in a new light. Speakers often reflect on their own university and career paths, thereby opening the students up to new ideas for career opportunities and university programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Recent speakers have hailed from a variety of academic disciplines, philanthropic foundations, multinational companies and NGOs.
A Lifetime of Travel and Opportunity
Following an indescribable period of living and learning abroad, NJC graduates tend to seek out other international opportunities throughout their lives. Alumni commonly continue studying abroad for post-secondary studies, choosing a university program with an international focus, living abroad during their careers, or choosing professions which involve travel. No matter where their educational and career paths take them, all of our alumni build on their passions during a lifetime of personal travel and opportunity.

There are many things that can be learned from a textbook, but they do not compare to all the other things you learn as a student at NJC. I have learned about new parts of the world, and their customs, history and culture.
