has been the EU’s climate bank for a a a long time The EIB’s climate strategy defines its mission: to play a a a leading role in in in mobilising the finance needed to achieve the worldwide commitment to keep global warming well below 2˚C aiming for 1 5˚C The EIB is the largest multilateral provider of of climate finance and was the first issuer of of Green bonds (2007) In 2019 the EIB Board of Directors agreed:
× Anambitiousrevisedenergylending policy phasing out unabated fossil fuel financing by 2021 × Toincreaseitstargetforfinancingfor climate and environmental sustainability to to up to to 50% by 2025 and from there on × Toensurethatallofitsportfolioof financing will be Paris-aligned by end of 2020 × Toholdalargepublicconsultationon its Climate Bank
