Congratulations to Noel for winning ‘Best modified/restored’ with his beautiful 1936 Oldsmobile at the recent MOTORFEST event in Brisbane.

RACQ Motorfest is always a great, well organised event and the 2022 Motorfest held recently was an extra special one for me after picking up a ‘Category Win’ in my 1936 Oldsmobile.
Registration for the event is done well in advance and entrants must arrive at their designated times to avoid traffic congestion. The RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane, is the venue with the ‘Pavilions’ providing cover for the multitude of car groups including the rare Vintage and Veterans.
The centre oval is where the majority of entrants display their cars and that spot brings back memories of my early teen years watching the speedway action on a Saturday night with my High School mates – ahhh! the smell of high octane fuel!!
It was good to catch up with a few Roadrunner Car Club members from Brisbane who attended with their cars: namely Jonathan and Jack Dore with their recently purchased immaculate E-Type Jaguar, Paul Baltzer with his wild Chev Corvette. Goetz Von Gneisenau from the Sunshine Coast showed off his extra special, highly optioned Toyota Soarer. Gerry Murphy and Will Johns from Gympie made an appearance too but only as spectators.
The day is full of conversation with other entrants and admirers which seems to make the day go quickly. A special treat was talking with the owner of the very rare Blower Bentley and the owner of a 3-wheel Messerschmitt which has been converted to electric power – a wise move as the original 2-stroke engine was renowned for its trailing smoke screen.
At 3pm the Cavalcade of Cars exit the grounds with onlookers lining the nearby street for a special glimpse. I made the journey home before dark luckily as the headlights were not working due to a malfunction. A long day, but very enjoyable.
