Drive and picnic @ Somerset Dam
Sunday 12 June 2022
RCC MEMBERS AND FRIENDS + THE BRITISH FORD CAR CLUB OF QUEENSLAND
It was a perfect Queensland winter day for our lovely long drive to Somerset Dam.
Thanks to Will Johns for plotting the route along glorious hinterland country roads – albeit having to navigate around a huge number of potholes in the tarmac!!!
The morning tea stopover was at the Pioneer Village in Maleny and by a quirk of
fate there was a local car show happening on the adjacent field... so that was an added attraction.
Then it was onwards to the Dam where our early bird traffic director Graeme Adams was geared up to guide us all into suitable picnic
spots. He had already manoeuvred the BFCC members into position half an hour before we arrived... well, they did not have so far to travel from Brisbane, via Esk.
Tables and chairs were quickly positioned, picnics unpacked and bottles uncorked or
unscrewed. Sadly the BBQs on site were not working, but fortunately the McGoverns had brought their own, Graeme Adams offered to lend his to the BFCC, and everyone else
‘made do’.
It was good to see the mingling of the two lots of club members some of whom had met
before at our Shows in Noosa.
After the munchies, it was more chatting
and relaxing in the sunshine before wending our various ways home – north and south.
It was generally agreed that a few more longer trips would be very welcome.
Our next drive will be a ‘mystery route’ plotted by Ken and Pat McGregor in August.
Really looking forward to it !!
