THE ORIGINS OF THE ‘SHEEP STATIONS’ PERPETUAL TROPHY from Debbie Newton
Back in April 2021 RRCC held the inaugural ‘Mini Golf Tournament’ at the Maroochy Golf Club.
The competition was fierce, and it was joked that ‘everyone was playing for sheep stations’.
I was having a conversation with Judy Bickley during which I said I would try and source an appropriate perpetual trophy.
The idea remained in the back of my mind and I kept looking out for something that would be suitable. Covid restrictions etc etc meant that it has taken this long to produce a trophy.
I was working at the Katie Rose Op-shop one day and amongst the donations was a trophy. The trophy topper was particularly ugly, but the base was just what I was looking for. Sometime later, a child’s money box in the shape of a very cute sheep came in so I duly bought that and then worked out how I could create the trophy.
After masking up the ‘slot’ in the poor sheep’s back, it was filled with plaster-of- paris with a suitable bolt embedded. Once it finally dried, Mick was able to re- jig the bolt hole through the stone base and that is how our Perpetual ‘Sheep Stations’ trophy came to be!!!!
Debbie Newton and
Mick Freestone have done a magnificent job producing this cute trophy - well done and thanks to you !
Our next club mini-golf day is planned for August.
