start finish line where the timing started, then flat out to Hell Corner, full throttle up Mountain Straight, down to third gear for the Cutting, power on up through Reid and Mc Phillamy’s Park, now into top gear and flat out to Skyline, down into third gear for the Esses, arriving at Forrest’s Elbow to select top gear and move to extreme left hand side of the track as I was one of the slowest cars in my group (Wow! I was really racing on the famous Bathurst Circuit); full power down Conrod Straight, check mirrors for faster cars, check gauges, brake hard for Murrays corner and past the finish line for another lap. What a buzz!!
From memory we had three events, one on Saturday and two on Sunday. I did have some minor issues with the car but they were fixable.
Looking back, did I get near my nominated time? NO! Did I care? NO! Once on the track it was drive as fast and as safely as possible. I just wanted to enjoy the experience of Mt Panorama.
On Monday we headed for home from this amazing event which was never repeated for historic sports cars. It’s very hard to describe the thrill I had over the weekend.
Thanks David : I was zipping around the circuit with you... very exciting! Editor
