BEHIND THE WHEEL ...
this month our intrepid driver Noel was off to Brisbane to drive a
1994 Mitsubishi GTO 3ltr V6 twin turbo
I recently visited a long term friend in Brisbane and a Roadrunner Car Club member – Paul Baltzer. Paul has a passion for unique cars and changes his cars often. His latest toys are a highly modified 1973 Corvette Stingray with a wide body kit sitting over a Lumpy 8ltr V8 that sucks fuel like a Spitfire and a very sleek 1994 Mitsubishi GTO 3ltr V6 twin turbo.
I chose to drive the GTO for this Behind the Wheel segment as I thought a run in the gas-guzzling Corvette might send him into poverty with the price of fuel at the moment: haha!!
The Mitsubishi oozes style, features and performance from every level. The first thing I notice is the torque and impressive acceleration from the V6 twin turbo that groundhogs its way through the 6-speed manual transmission. It handles like a go-kart thanks to the all wheel drive and all wheel steer, plus a set of sticky tyres makes for a safe drive through the winding roads of Upper Brookfield.
I loved the style of this car with all the advanced features that the Japanese seemed to pour into their up-spec models of this era. Paul enjoys getting his cars in tip-top mechanical order and performs most of the maintenance work in-house – errrr... in-garage.
It’s always a treat to visit Paul on his acreage property in Brookfield and see what his latest toys are. His 2 neighbours are Roadrunner Car Club members as well and have interesting car collections – that might be a story for another edition.
