THANKS TO OUR MEMBERS & FRIENDS WHO BROUGHT OUT THEIR VEHICLES IN THE RAIN
Umbrellas swarming between the cars like so many drowning butterflies heralded a disastrous day – but nothing keeps down a dedicated Roadrunner or classic owner, and with goodwill all round everyone set to with good humour.
It was a shame that we only had half our registered entrants turn up – but that was not unexpected – and with our higgledy- piggledy layout the park soon looked like an event was in progress.
Thank goodness for the hot coffee and hot food across the park which kept everyone warm inside while they chatted about engines and paintwork, upholstery finishes, horsepower, and noted shiny chrome with beaded rain droplets ...and, importantly, what the Judges might be taking note of.
There were some intrepid members of the public who braved the elements to come and look round, buy some raffle tickets and chat to owners. Although 600 were counted our gate numbers were woefully low compared to last year though.
Finally the drizzle stopped, and with a faint glimmer of sunshine to warm us a little it was time for the presentations.
Will Johns and his Judging Team had worked hard and a procession of beaming owners received their well deserved prizes from our Club President, Graeme Block.
Fearing the wrath of your Editor brandishing her camera if they did not stand still for a moment, all the prizewinners posed proudly beside their vehicles to be ‘shot’ for posterity.
To sum up – well it could have been wetter and stormier, we were not up to our knees in mud, and we had a lovely sociable day amongst friends and fabulous metal-work.
Roll on next year... Myra Doyle : Editor
