  Here Come De Judge...
Some people say that a judge needs to be “intelligent, thoughtful, objective and above all very precise” well I can certainly say that this description is very true when looking at the judging panel from our recent Charity Car Show.
Hello! My name is Will Johns and I was fortunate enough to be asked to be the Chief Judge at our recent car show. While I have had considerable experience in this field over the last 35 or so years I needed assistance in this recent show. What do we do when needing assistance? Yep, we ask around for interested parties to help. Seven sturdy chaps stepped forward ...Sir !
One thing we must have is uniformity with our judging, so I conducted a 2-stage training program for our lads covering both team work skills, and of course judging skills. Well, I must say that either I am a very good instructor (20 years experience) or we had an exceptional group of aspiring judges ready to go get ‘em... roll on October 2!
For this year, car show entrants were to enter their vehicles in 1 of 6 Age-related Groups – starting from pre-war to modern. This necessitated having 6 different judging teams in order to ensure uniformity and objectivity were not lost in the process. Hence our 7 trusty lads...
Big Day... Bloody Hell, it’s pouring with rain! but the show must go on. Instead of 110 expected cars and bikes we had 60 hardy owners who kept the show on the rails. This produced its own problems with judging teams trying to stay dry, examine the lovely cars and complete the judging sheet. Yes the numbers were down BUT the standard of cars exhibited was extremely high. Only 1 point separated the winner from 2nd place in one of the groups. Phew, that is close. The cars are examined externally, internally and under bonnet for condition and cleanliness. Points are awarded for each item and the result tabulated.
The various winners have been mentioned elsewhere in this edition so it only leaves me to thank my Judging Team and Mates for a job well done: Take A Bow Boys.
Bob Goldsmith, Ken Mc Gregor, Paul Gray, John Raye, David Margolin, Mick Freestone, and Darcy Tredrea.
P.S. I did help out a bit on the day. HE HE...
