BEHIND THE WHEEL This month our intrepid ‘driver’ Noel St John-Wood is driving his
‘EGO’ ZERO TURN
Something a bit different again this month...
Living on a big block of land requires much mowing and trimming. This is not a job that makes me whistle a tune but the task has improved a great deal with my recent purchase of a USA-brand ‘EGO electric Zero Turn' mower, EGO self-propelled electric mower, and an EGO electric whipper-snipper.
I was so impressed with the snipper that rid me of pull starting, fuel issues, noise annoyance and frustrating line feed-in episodes. It made the purchase of the ZERO an easy decision.
The 42 inch twin blade cutting deck is ample for keeping the lawn in order. The mower is powered by six 56v batteries which give an equivalent 22hp and lasts around 2 mows of a 3⁄4 acre block. It’s easy to operate and quite comfortable with a nicely cushioned suspension seat. A simple toggle drive/steer similar to an electric wheelchair control would have been better than the traditional style twin levers but it may happen on future models. The twin bottle/stubby holder and USB port are nice touches that compliment my alcohol-free beer drinking habit. After using different types of Zero Turns over the years, the electric is a real pleasure to use – I love-it!!
