Max Markolf carried his off-season momentum into the opening day of racing where he qualified for the main events in all 3 of his classes by way of 1st place. The key to success all weekend, just as it was on Saturday for the pros, was the start. Although the track configuration was partially modified from the AMA SX set-up, the tight and twisty nature of the track and the rough sands of Daytona made it difficult to move out of the preferred line and make a pass stick. In the 250 B moto on Monday morning, Markolf put his Orange Brigade KTM out front early and never looked back, sealing his first ever AMA National Championship in the process.
