Lance Kobusch started off his weekend at the Daytona RCSX by qualifying out of both of his heat races in the Supermini (12-15) and Schoolboy 1 classes with respective 2nd and 3rd place finishes. He turned the fastest lap of his Supermini heat and looked to be the favorite going into the main event after battling back from 5th place on lap 1 to finish 2nd behind
Japanese rider Joe Shimoda. Everything went wrong at the start of the main event when the 90 degree first corner claimed more victims on the weekend. Kobusch came together with fellow Team Green rider Stilez Robertson and completely bent his right foot peg underneath his back brake. Unfortunately, the incident forced Robertson off of the track which turned worse when he tried to re-enter before the second corner. He clipped a hay bale which forced him over the bars and created a bit of a log jam in the first corner. Miraculously, Kobusch came out of the 2nd corner in approximately 5th place. He over- came his technical difficulties and rode the entire race with one peg and no back brake. He made an early move on the first lap to pass Jace Kessler for 4th position, but could not hold off a late charge from Jarett Frye and had to settle for a 5th place. Although it’s not what is expected of him going into the event, Kobusch put in one of the rides of the weekend to salvage a 5th place finish with a mangled motorcycle.
