Weight reduction was at the top of the priority sheet when designing the new FXDR, utilizing a multi- tude of aluminium and composite components to get the job done. The aluminum swingarm weighs only 13.8 pounds, almost half of what a typical steel Softail swingarm typically weighs. The rear subframe is made up of aluminum as well in part with a composite tail, reducing weight by another 7 pounds in comparison to a standard steel subframe and fender seen on other Softails. The bike hosts an 18-inch aluminum disc rear wheel and a 19-inch forged aluminum front wheel with incredibly thin spokes in an effort to reduce weight. All in all, the FXDR 114 boasts a dry weight of 637 pounds.
The power comes from a Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine, tuned to produce 119lb-ft torque at 3,500rpm. Harley found some inspiration in the Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines drag bikes, fitting the FXDR 114 with a forward-facing air intake. Miraculously, the exposed air filter is made from a new synthetic media that doesn’t require maintenance and lubrication.
The two-into-one exhaust is designed to produce a deep, gruff rumble. The pipes sport a slight angle that helps to maximize lean angle to 32.8 degrees on the right side, forgoing traditional Harley stylings to maximize performance. On the left side, the 32.6 degree lean angle brings the FXDR 114 to the top of the Softail charts, providing more lean than any other bike that’s currently available. For those rid- ers that crave a little more bite on the throttle, Harley-Davidson offers a Screamin’ Eagle Titanium Per- formance slip-on said which is meant to produce a more aggressive sound and weigh half as much. In addition to the slip-on, users can also get their hands on an air cleaner kit and a street tuner in a Screamin’ Eagle Stage 1 performance upgrade, setting the stage for further performance upgrades down the road. >>
