DAYTONAANDERSON
SUPERSPORT
Anderson took a red eye flight to Wisconsin that put him on the track for Friday’s sessions with little to no sleep. The Californian
used the first two practice sessions as an opportunity to get used to the bike, but the torrential downpour on Saturday morning
threw a wrench in the works and presented him with an entirely different challenge.
The Suzuki rider managed to clock the seventeenth fastest time of the session, placing him a little further down the order than he’s used to for the start of the race. The
Team Hammer squad decided to fit their riders with slick tires in the opening race of the weekend which ended up playing a major role in the outcome. The gamble didn’t pay off as the track didn’t dry out quick enough and it cost the likes of Anderson as he fell down to the bottom of the order on the opening lap, crossing the finish line in twenty-eighth position. His pace improved from one lap to the next as the track conditions began to favor his setup, but there wasn’t enough time to or disparity between the lap times in order to close up on the riders in front of him. Anderson managed to advance from twenty-eighth on the first lap to twenty-fourth by the end of the race, scoring his worst finish of the season thus far. The conditions weren’t ideal for the nineteen year old as he’s still trying to come to grips with the new Suzuki, but Sunday’s race was a lot better considering the pristine conditions that were laid out before the riders. He moved up six spots on the opening lap, settling into twelfth position behind Jody Barry as the pack crossed the finish line for the first time. The Californian made steady improvements throughout the race, working his way past Barry one lap later as he knocked on the door of the top ten. He turned consistent lap times all the way until the checkered flag and was rewarded for his efforts as other riders made mistakes further up the field, allowing him to finish ninth place at the checkered flag.
