>> Marvin Musquin is now in his sophomore year of the premier class. After a fantastic off-season where he nearly won every race he entered, Marvin came into the season opener with a little extra confidence. He seemed to be very comfortable on his Red Bull KTM last weekend in Anaheim and was able to solidify himself as a top three threat. Marvin picked up right
we where he left off when practice began in Petco Park on Saturday as
he put in a time good enough for 5th overall. When 450 Heat 2 began, he didn’t get the best of starts but was eager to get up front. As the pack came through the whoops on the first lap, Marvin was just inside the top ten and was looking for every way around the riders in front of him. He jumped
to the inside in nearly every corner until he had climbed his way into an impressive 5th position by the second lap. A few laps later, he was able to go inside of Cooper Webb on the second corner and out drive him to triple on to the table going into the next section. Marvin then set his sights on Cooper’s teammate, Reed, and was able to make the exact same pass on him. He would finish a hard fought 3rd place. When the gate dropped for the Main Event, Marvin got a fantastic jump as he was fighting for the lead against his teammate going into the second corner. Marvin took the inside as he did many times in the heats, but this time, he was unable to triple on. Marvin countered by attempting to launch off the next table but lost control. He was able to keep it together enough to plant the wheels down on the next table but his bike was pointed in the wrong direction as he launched off the side of the track. He was forced to go through a mud puddle on the side of the track but was able to safely re-enter in the next section. Marvin was now in 3rd place and took the next couple laps to regain his composure after the close call. This allowed the leaders to pull a little bit of a gap on Marvin. He did everything he could to make up the time lost to the leaders but there was nothing that was going to help him. Musquin would settle for 3rd place in San Diego.
