>> Zac Commans is only a few years removed from a near deadly crash but he is not deterred because his motocross roots run deep. The local Southern California native has finally getting back in the rhythm of things over the past year and his riding has begun to show that. The Rockwell Watches team rider made his first two main events of his career last year in 2016 and is hoping that that experience helps him get back there on a consistent basis this year. He started off with a main event outing last week at the opener at Anaheim and was looking to repeat a similar performance here in San Diego. He struggled a bit in qualifying practice only notching the twenty-eighth fastest time but knew what adjustments to make to give him a bet-
ter chance come race time. His heat race did not go the best as he started sixteenth and could only work up to eleventh place, two spots away from a direct transfer. Instead, he had to go to the LCQ where he would get a much better start and finish in second to make his second main event in as many rounds.
He transferred his fine start from the LCQ straight to the main event as he rounded lap one in a fantastic seventh place position. Unfamil- iar in this territory, Commans began to fall backwards just a bit losing a spot or two per lap before dropping several after a big bobble a few laps in. He would never fully recover from that mistake and must settle with nineteenth for the second time in two weeks. Despite the poor result, Commans still gathered significant experience running amid that top ten.
