>> Jon Ames or as he was known throughout his amateur career, “Jon Jon” Ames is making his rookie debut here in 2017 in the 250 West Coast series. The young rider from Riverside, CA had a very up and down amateur career riddled with injuries and triumph. He had good and bad years but in those good years he showed that he does have some promise and can make a name for himself in the pro ranks. His debut in Anaheim did not go all too well as he finished dead last in twenty-second position. He hoped for a much better outcome this week in San Diego. The Ride Moto/Home Depot/Yamaha rider struggled a bit in practice with the twenty-sixth fastest lap time. He must have made the proper adjustments come race time because he went out in his heat race and secured the ninth and final trans- fer spot to the main event. Ames would get out to a bad start in the main only rounding lap one buried way back in nineteenth. He did his best to stay afloat out there and was fighting to move forward up towards the top fifteen when disaster struck forcing him to pull out of the race just before the halfway point making another twenty-second-place finish to start his professional ca- reer. If there are positives for Ames out of these first two races, he can only go up from here!
